Super Tours Maroc organizes the most wanted Marrakech desert tours
Basic info about Ouarzazate
Ouarzazate, also known as the door of the desert, is the capital city of Ouarzazate Province in the Drâa-Tafilalet region of south-central Morocco, centered north from the desert. Considered as an important holiday destination in Morocco, Ouarzazate is a base for excursions, across the Draa Valley and into the desert.
The Draa River, with the length of 1,100 kilometers is Morocco’s longest river. It is formed by the confluence of the Dadès River and Imini River and most of the time of the year the part of the Draa after Tagounite falls dry. The water of this river is used for watering the palm trees and the horticulture along the river.
The valley of Draa takes up to 23,000 square kilometers, and is inhabited with more than 225,000 people.
The Draa Valley grows more than 18 varieties, including fruit trees, vegetables and even henna. It consists of six stretches of oases/palm groves, and from north to south the order goes like this: the Mezguita oasis, the oasis of Tinzouline, the Ternata oasis, the Fezouata oasis, the Ktaoua oasis and the oasis of Mhamid el Ghuzlan.
Enriched and filled with all of the different kinds of flora and fauna, the Draa Valley is a must visit destination. The tours from Ouarzazate and through the Ouarzazate desert are one of the trips and excursions our agency offers, they are one of the activities for discovering the unknown and the more than superficial part of Ouarzazate.
The best you will see is not in Ouarzazate, but around it!
As a trip advisor I highly recommend you to visit Ouarzazate, but not only stay in one place, but constantly move around and keep exploring. The activities I suggest are in the same area as Ouarzazate, and the Super Tours Maroc can surely grant you with it. The different discoveries and excursions around this region include all of the most wanted and most required landmarks. The very best impression you will get is from the streets, and moreover it is totally free. However, the kasbahs outside the city, such as Aït-Benhaddou, are far better.
Ait Benhaddou has been declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is one of the best kept Kasbahs. It is a fortified village, located along the former caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech. As an extraordinary attraction, a lot of movies have been shot here. Some of them include Sodom and Gomorrah, Oedipus Rex, The Man Who Would Be King, The Message, Jesus of Nazareth, Time Bandits, Marco Polo, The Jewel of the Nile, The Living Daylights, The Last Temptation of Christ, The Sheltering Sky, Kundun, The Mummy, Gladiator, Alexander, Kingdom of Heaven, Babel, One Night with the King, Prince of Persia, Son of God etc.
Furthermore, get ready to climb stairs! For the best photos, climb the round hill next to the city. Arriving here during the sunset is magical!
Zagora
Many excursions and tours from Ouarzazate through the valley of the Draa River into the Sahara start from the city. The trips and tours our company offers are one of the best Ouarzazate desert tours, and they are surely a must. We include trips to Zagora, and if you haven’t heard about this area till now, it is time to get informed. The city of Zagora is bordered by the Zagora Mountain, also known as Tazagourt. On the top of this mountain, the remains of the Almoravid fortress can still be found and seen.
Back to the city….
It is located in the Draa River valley in the Drâa-Tafilalet region of southeastern Morocco and the town itself was only built in the 20th century. The town is a really small one. It maybe covers 5 km in length and is 1 km wide at the widest point. This oasis town is surrounded by palm tree plantations and a departure point for camel trains to Timbuktu, a journey that would take about 52 days.
Our company offers a lot of excursions, but one of the best includes a camel trek! If you want to be taken directly to the heart of the desert, you are definitely ready for this famous experience! However, remember that this is not the only way for transport. If you do not like camels, you can explore the desert with its own specification by 4×4’s and Land Rovers, taking you out and around the desert!
